Acorn Electron

Write about your first computer.

It was the 80s and I was interested in these new computers! I was a pre-teen and had always loved watching the BBC tv programme Tomorrows World. They talked a lot about technology & developments. Somehow it captured my interest. So my lovely parents bought me an Acorn Electron.

I can remember writing a wee programme that was like a very short quiz! I think I also got a monthly magazine in the post that taught me basic programming but i don’t remember its name.

I vividly remember linking up my cassette player to play what sounded like fax machine noises to load the game Frogger. Frogger was like a basic road crossing game – still a popular concept today with Crossy Road.

I also remember the jealousy of my friend with a ZX Spectrum. She could play both Manc Miner & some Olympic Decathalon game and so seemed so cool to me 😄

It’s still a bit mind boggling to see what my ‘phone’ can now do compared to those first personal computers.
